Belle Armoire Jewelry Spring Issue

The new Belle Armoire Jewelry issue is here and chock full of Springy ideas that will tickle your inspiration bones!
This is a little peak at my article... it's all about our feathered friends, crystals and metal flowers.

I share my secret source for those vintage bird images, but you've got to pick up the magazine to find out where I get them from!

And to those who have written me about this article, thanks so much, and I hope I was able to answer your questions properly!! GOOD LUCK and PLEASE let me know how your little treasures come out!

  1. I loved this article, Jessica! I just bought a chandelier at a garage sale a few weeks ago (for the crystals, of course) and I tried my hand at collaging on one last night. I have all kinds of ideas for this now. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. LOVED this article and beautiful idea! I purchased several chandelier pendants months ago, knowing the perfect "technique" would manifest. I love this publication and when I saw the gorgeous necklaces, I couldn't wait to get started with my little finds. Still waiting on a few supplies, but I'll keep you updated. You are truly an inspiration to us all! Regards, Sheila

  5. Your work is very beautiful and has a very specific preciousness to it. It's crazy to think of all the the bits and pieces of stuff I have collected at farm auctions over the past 24 years and finally ejected from my ever over-flowing life. What I would like to get your thoughts on is; Do you experience the tendency for wrapped links to kind of "kink" and not drape fluidly like regular chain? I found that by keeping a deep stock of sauldered closed jump rings in different sizes and connecting one between each wrapped bead link stops the "kinks". It also provides a really sweet place to hand wrapped dangles from so you avoid the dangles from awkwardly hanging due to the lack of fluidity of the wrapped link chain.
I look forward to seeing more of your work!

  6. Dear Anonymous,

Thankyou for the kind comment... the word "precious" just made my day!

hmmmm.... honestly I don't find I have that problem with the kinking, not sure what I am doing differently. I do sometimes use jump rings in between the links, but I think I do it more for the "look"... sometimes I like how it can lighten a beaded chain up a bit. I agree that hanging dangles from the jumprings is effective (and oh-so-cute), though I tend to keep my chains simple and focus more on the pendant as my focal art. I have friends in the industry that can really load up a chain (in a good way), but I found, that it isn't me, and when I try to do it, the chain looks junky to me. I don't know how they pull it off!

I would love to see some of your work, please let me know where I can see it!!

  7. also anonymous, what gauge wire are you using? that might make a difference too....

  8. Hello, again! I made a Google account so I'm not "Anonymous" anymore.

For my wire link wrapping, I usually use 24 or 25 gauge as I make necklaces out of semi-precious beads. The drill on them can be very small and I don't like reaming.

For dangles, I agree. "Less is More" Now, where did I just read that? I really did enjoy your article in B.A. Jewelry.

I think I will play with the Blogspot feature and see if I can't upload some pics of the 2 necklaces I've done inspired by your article.

I named my blogspot "Susan Carole June Bug". We'll see if I can decorate that space a bit...

  9. Oops, that was supposed to be "24 or 25 gauge".

  10. Yikes! It's like my keyboard won't type a "six"! I'll spell it out, "twenty four or twenty SIX gauge". Sheesh!

  12. Jessica, thank you for visiting my Wee Blog! I have gotten one salvaged brooch pin finished to the point of hanging a dangle from the bottom of the flower. I really like the beads I chose for the chain part. There's a real nice stained glass shop here that I visited, hoping I could find something nice to dangle. I did find a wonderful teardrop-shaped piece of clear glass with a slight AB coating on it. It's real nice, but not drilled. I bought a drill bit that they said would do the job. It was 28.00! Hubby says it will work in our drill press but it will be slow going. I am arguing with myself about weather I should return it and try something else. It sure like the way the drop goes with the flower. It's not faceted. It's slag-shaped like those little pieces of round glass that you play Pente with.

Oh, and while I was at the glass shop, I signed up for a Beginners Stained Glass class. Like I need one more hobby!

    We'll see.

I have a bird fettish, myself, and have had such a difficult time finding images that are suitable. I know you said that you spilled your secret in the article, but I must be blind - I can't find it. Please help.
